Pilsen Primed for Business Expansion
Published: February 5, 2010
LISC MetroEdge partnered with the 18th Avenue Development Corporation, The Resurrection Project and LISC Chicago to conduct a Retail Scan in Pilsen, a New Communities neighborhood. By analyzing market data and conducting on-the-ground assessments, LISC MetroEdge identified unmet retail demand and strategies for building on Pilsen’s thriving arts and restaurant district.
In particular, MetroEdge encouraged Pilsen businesses to work together to build on their strength as a destination for the arts, culture and dining. Strategy recommendations included encouraging pedestrian traffic along the 18th St. commercial corridor, upgrades to building façades, particularly those that preserve historic and Mexican elements and more regularly scheduled special events that draw a steady stream of shoppers.
